Pastor Tom Irby became a Christian at the age of 24. Shortly
after his conversion, Tom felt God’s call to serve in full time
ministry. To fulfill this calling, he studied at Reformed
Theological Seminary, where he met and married his wife Dea. Tom
graduated from seminary in 1977 with a Masters of Divinity degree.
After seminary, Pastor Tom Irby worked in church planting in Florida
for a few years. Then Tom pastored three different churches:
Linden Presbyterian Church in Linden, Alabama, Fairfield Presbyterian
Church in Pensacola, Florida and Harvester Presbyterian Church in
Douglasville, Georgia.
Pastor Tom Irby’s family is an extremely important part of his
life. Tom and his wife Dea have eight children ranging in age
from preschool to post-graduate: Candace, Joshua, Seth, Bethany,
Corban, Gabriel, Caleb and Melea Grace.
Tom has a vision for a purpose driven church that is empowered by God.
A noted characteristic of his previous pastorates has been small
groups. He believes that through small groups, we can experience
true fellowship and spiritual growth. Tom also encourages every
person to take up God's call to be a minister of the Gospel. He
sees himself as the pastor/coach who helps to equip the church members to live
out their lives as mature disciples who themselves can, in turn, train
others.
Tom’s vision for the church has been displayed in writing as
well. Tom and his wife developed a parenting study guide called
Straight Arrows for use in seminars. They also developed Meta
Group Manual for use in leadership training.
God has begun a wonderful work in the Clarkesville area through the
people He has gathered already. Tom is excited to join with God and
Christ Presbyterian Church in the future of this endeavor. |
| Worship and Youth
- Randy & Mackenzie Chester |
Randy and Mackenzie Chester have a desire to use the gifts that God has given them to lead others to Christ. Having backgrounds in arts and music, the Chester's incorporate their gifts into the weekly Sunday morning worship as well as at ZEO, the weekly youth meeting.
Born in Costa Rica, Randy obtained his Associates Degree in General Education from Emmanuel College in 1989. Starting in 1998, Randy has lead worship for a multitude of churches and groups, including two years as the assistant worship leader at Emmanuel College. In conjunction with his worship experience, Randy has been a camp counselor for several youth camps throughout the Southeast.
Randy's wife, Mackenzie, also has extensive experience with music as well as photography and teaching. Born in Cornelia, GA, Mackenzie is currently working to obtain her Masters of Fine Arts in Photography at the University of Georgia. Having graduated from Habersham Central in 2000, Mackenzie has studied in Costa Rica as well as obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Piedmont College in 2003. Mackenzie's history of working with worship teams dates back to 1995, where she began to play with her church's praise band. Since then, she has played guitar, bass and/or has sung with every praise band at all of the churches she has attended.
The Chester's have a heart for using their gifts to honor the Lord. Their desire is to use music to create an atmosphere in church where God's people can worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. They also have a desire to create a safe and exciting place for youth to learn the principles of the Bible through study and fellowship. Most of all, the Chester's have a desire to serve God and to serve His church. They are thrilled to be a part of what God is doing here at Christ Presbyterian Church. |
