Home and Foreign Missions are very important to the vision of Christ
Presbyterian Church. The scope of missions was addressed by Jesus in
Acts 1:8 when He said “but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit
has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and
in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
This means that we are to be involved in the missionary process on all
levels.
Where is your Jerusalem? Where is your Judea? Where is your
Samaria? Where are your remotest parts of the earth? We are to be
involved in our own city and country, own state and nation, to people
in our own cultural group, and to people in other cultural groups both
at home and abroad. We are to be involved in and support all of these,
omitting none, but we are to give priority to those who have had the
least opportunity to hear the gospel.
To have a philosophy of missions, which promotes the idea that
we should take care of our needs and the needs of those around us
first, and then meet the needs of the rest of the world later is not an
acceptable policy in the light of Jesus' instructions in Acts 1:8. If
we are unconcerned about people who have never heard the gospel, we
certainly will not be concerned about those around us. We believe that
each time a member of our church begins to get a world vision and
becomes involved in missions, they begin to see that the mission field
really begins in their Jerusalem, even at the door of this church. |
